Screen cast 4 - Closing thoughts

In the below video speak about the blog and my process of creating it.  Also my closing thoughts on this assignment.

Screen cast 3 - iOS 11 and the iPhone 6

Here is a link to my third screen cast.  I talk about iOS 11 working with iPhone 6.  I recorded this directly from my iPhone using a screen recording feature the device provides.

Screen cast 2 - Operating systems

Here is a link to my operating systems screen cast.  This is my second screen cast in total of my blog.  Here I talk about operating systems.

Using iOS as a student

As a student I find using iOS really useful and easy to use.  I currently have an iPhone 6 running iOS 11.  With this device I have access to many different applications and features i can use to assist me in college.  When working from home I use One Drive to save files online  if I  ever loose my usb stick.  From my device I can view documents my lecture puts up on Learn Online  instead of having to print them off I can use my device to ready them and save them on it. When creating a mind map I used the coggle app when on the go if I taught of a new change I wanted to make for my blog.  Because of the touch screen capabilities that iOS offers I can easily work on projects that require planning with the options Apple offers. While researching uses for iOS I learned of different methods I can be more efficient as a student.  A great example of this is istudeiez.  This is an app I was previously unaware of and I plan on trying o...

Tools needed to build an iOS app

Why develop iOS apps ? They are small compact apps that a person from beginner to experienced can work with.  They are simple to work with and understand. They do what you design them to do. When developing an app for iOS it is important that the developer has the correct tools to work with.  You will need a mac that is running Mac OS X version 10.8 or higher.  Every developer should register as an Apple Developer. This is free to do and by doing so will allow you to download Xcode. Next step after registering is to install Xcode on your device.  This is the IDE ( integrated development environment) used by apple to work with iOS.  Xcode can also be used for tvOS and the macOS. From this interface you can start planning out the different parts of your app and writing the code.  Xcode supports various types of programming languages such as c , c++ and python.

A prominent feature : the iOS store

Every iOS device has the app store installed on the device.  In 2008 on the 10th of june the app store opened with over 500 applications available.  Today we have accsess to over 2.2 million apps. Through the app store users can download and purchase various apps that other users have created and shared.  All of these apps are developed using Apple's iOS software development kit.  Even the Apple watch has the ability to use the app store and download any of it's various apps.  As an app devleoper you have the option to monetize an app you make.  You and choose from free, free with in app purchases or paid.

Device Compatability

Through the years there have been many different devices from apple that run on the  iOS operating system.  From the iPod to the iPad each of these devices run a new version of the operating system depending on the year of release.  Some devices are still compatible with newer versions of iOS but only so far back.   Below we can see the devices that are compatible with the latest version of apples iOS.  Unfortunately if you own an older device that the ones listed you cannot install and run iOS 11 on your device.

Security and you!

Apple regularly releases security updates for iOS users.  As an apple customer you have access to many different types of security on your devices.  From pass codes to touch ID and face ID there are a multitude of  ways to stay safe and prevent security risks.  Below are some fo these examples explained and how they work. Pass code It is recommended that all users have at least a pass code on their device.  When you purchase an iOS device you will be asked to input simple pass code that you will need to remember to unlock your phone and access the interface in the future. Finger Print With iOS you have the option to unlock your device using a finger print scanner.  This feature is optional as you can choose to enter your pass code instead.  As we can see below you can choose to just use one fingerprint or more.

How Apple changed the mobile market with iOS

Many mobile device users will give you their opinion on what they find best for them.  Customers of all ages will tell you why their specific phone suits them.  Some users will say they purchased it because of them price point, others will say because of the look of the phone and other will say because of the simplicity of the phone compared to others in the market.  And then there are those who will tell you why the operating system is the reason behind their purchase,    Apple is universally praised with having an easy to understand operating system on all of its devices.  From the iPhone to the iPad these devices can be easily used by a person of any age.  Because of the simplicity of iOS a user can navigate an iPhone with just the swipe of a thumb.  The layout of every Apple device running iOS is similar.  You have a button below the screen which acts as a finger print scanner and a way to navigate which window or application...

Why would a consumer choose iOS?

As a student myself I choose iOS because of the simplicity of the operating system and the quality of life it offers.  In this post I will cover some points that helped me choose iOS. 1.Quality of life 2.Security 3.Design Quality of life   Most of the people in my family use iPhone devices that run different versions of iOS.  Both of my parents use mac books, all of my nephews have iPhones from the iPhone 4 to iPhone 6 and my brother uses an iPhone.  Every member of the family is a different age ranging from 7 to 60 years old.  Years ago my parents would ask myself or my brother to give them help with using their phone or older laptops.  Since they have started using mac books and iPhones because of the simplicity of the operating systems they can easily navigate the interfaces.   My nephews are able to use all of the various apps for social media to contact their friends or parents when needed.  Some national schools offer iPad...

My blogs goal

Below i have included a layout of my blog for users to get a quick understanding before i jump into each post.  While preparing for this assignment I have created some links to help myself and readers of the blog understand my goals.  Below I have linked my coggle diagram with my layout of the blog.  Through the blog I will complete screen casts and also if possible some live demonstrations of the iOS operating system in use. Apple and it's start with iOS and breaking into the mobile market

The big reveal.   At the San Francisco keynote 2007 Steve Jobs made a claim to the world that Apple have been working on a device that was so far ahead of its time that every other company that worked with mobile devices were five years behind them.  On that day he revealed the iPhone.    Steve jobs would go on to talk about how the phone as we know it would be reinvented.  After years of working on the operating system Jobs revealed that the interface of the iPhone is what will set it apart from every other mobile device available at the time.   Instead of the regular interface of a mobile phone having buttons usually placed below the screen like a small keypad Apply decided to remove the keyboard from the device and instead implemented a touchscreen.  His philosophy is we have all of these buttons here even if we do not need them.  What happens if you think of a new idea down the line?  Jobs himself said "you cant run around and ad...

First Entry + First screen cast

Introduction       Hello everyone my name is Ryan Wilson I am currently studying software development in GMIT.  Currently in our second year of the course for our IT skills module we have be assigned to create a blog about a topic of our choosing relating to IT.  I have chosen to write about the Apple iPhone and  iOS operating systems.     Why did i choose this topic ?      I feel this is a topic I am familiar with as I have done some research for my IT professional skills module.  When researching the operating system I have learned many different aspects of it that I was not familiar with beforehand.  I find it to be an interesting subject.  We use these various operating systems everyday but we may not  look into what makes them work  or what makes them stand out from each other.   Over the course of this blog i will cover a multitude of topics that relate to the operating ...
